New year Letter 2009

New year Letter 2009

January, 2009

Hello dear,

Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed your holiday? There’s something about a new year that makes everyone so excited. It’s like a new beginning; a clean slate; a fresh start. Failures and disappointments of yesterday are easily forgotten and everyone wants a fresh start. Why does everyone want a fresh start? I guess it’s because nobody likes dirt and filth.

Well, I’ll like to use this to remind you of a time when humanity really needed a fresh start. Romans3:23 summarizes the state of man then. It says, ‘For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard’ (NLT). We were dead in our trespasses (Eph2:1), children of wrath (Eph2:3), alienated from the commonwealth of Israel, without God and without hope (Eph2:12). This was the sad story of humanity because of one man’s sin (Adam’s sin) which was imputed (passed on) to all of us (please read Rom5:12-13).

The important question was: who would wipe the slate clean and make it all good? Who would pay for our sins? The Bible provides the answer: John3:16 (KJV) says ‘For God so loved the world that He gave us His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life’. Romans3:25 (NLT) also reads: ‘For God sent Jesus to take the punishment for our sins  and to satisfy God’s anger against us. We are made right with God when we believe that Jesus shed his blood, sacrificing his life for us’. Jesus Christ died for the sins of the whole world (1John2:2).

From the two verses above it is clear that anyone who believes in what Christ has done, has got a fresh start. That person is now ‘right with God’ according to Rom3:25. Once you accept the fact that Jesus died for your sins, you are saved completely. You become a new creature (2cor5:17). God sees you as holy without a single blemish (Heb10:10). You now have God and hope in this world. This isn’t something you struggle for or work for. You get it all by simply believing in what Christ did. This is the grace of God (Eph2:8-9).

Have you believed in what Christ did for you? If yes, then you are God’s child forever. Rejoice in this truth. However, if your answer is no; then this an opportunity: Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved (Acts16:31).

There are lots of things to learn as a Christian in order to grow (1Pet2:2). As you go through this new year, it’s our desire that you grow in your relationship with God.
