6th Edition (August, 2020)

Who We Are

Pens For Christ (PFC) is a Christian ministry that seeks to help people grow in their relationship with God. It is a non-denominational organization that draws membership from several Bible believing churches within and outside Nigeria.

The need for an organized platform that attends to new converts/young believers led to the birth of this ministry in 2002. This was impressed by the Holy Spirit on Dr Adewole Babatunde who shared the vision with other Christian friends. The vision, as conceived, identified a need within the body of Christ to provide a structured follow-up/discipleship programme for new converts/young believers to get them rooted in Christ. Hence, PFC came with the aim of attending to the needs of new converts/young Christians mainly through writing. The ministry, which started among a group of young Christian undergraduates, has continued to serve individuals and groups within the body of Christ. Please refer to the ‘About Us’ section of our website for more information: https://www.pensforchrist.org/about-us.

Pens For Christ is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria as ‘Pens For Christ Ministry International’ with headquarters in Ilorin, Kwara State of Nigeria. Members and contacts are, however, spread across different parts of the world. The motto of the ministry is …helping you to grow in your relationship with God.

What We Do

- Keeping in personal touch with new converts/young believers to provide needed guidance and support in their walk with God (one-on-one mentorship).- Sharing the message of the gospel through various social media platforms.
- Praying for new converts/young Christians.
- Partnering with other Christian bodies by being a part of their programmes (such as youth camps, outreaches) as counsellors and providing follow-up services.
- Organizing outreaches to schools to share the truths of God’s Word that will enhance their walk with God.
- Attending to questions or issues that trouble the hearts of new converts/young Christians.
- Writing of encouragement letters to new converts/young Christians and also keeping in touch with them.
- Writing of serial follow-up articles appropriate for new converts/young Christians.

‘And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people's sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation.’ (2 Corinthians 5:18-19, NLT).

‘Why is it that he gives us these special abilities to do certain things best? It is that God's people will be equipped to do better work for him, building up the Church, the body of Christ, to a position of strength and maturity; until finally we all believe alike about our salvation and about our Saviour, God's Son, and all become full-grown in the Lord-yes, to the point of being filled full with Christ.’ (Ephesians 4:12-13, TLB)

How We Carry Out Our Duties?

· Follow-up of Contacts

Our means of communication is mainly through writing (correspondence) and we use a variety of means, which include postal services, email and social media. We usually require responses from our contacts in form of completed Bible studies, personal letters or their feedback on the write-up received. This helps us not only to assess their understanding but also to receive their questions and concerns. We work on building a relationship with our contacts as their brothers and sisters in Christ who can in turn help them foster their own relationship with our heavenly Father.

We have adopted both proactive and reactive approaches in carrying out our duties. On the one hand, we share with our “contacts” truths of God’s Word that has helped our walk with Him through a systematic/serial follow-up guide in the form of articles, Bible studies and personal letters. We believe that this will also help them in their own walk with Him. On the other hand, when challenges arise in their own walk with God or other areas of their lives, we offer counsel from God’s Word. Our Lord Jesus declared: ‘Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’ (John 8:32, NIV)

We also make it a point of duty to ensure that our contacts clearly understand the gospel message thereby helping them to ascertain their salvation from the Word of God. ‘It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place. I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.’ (1 Corinthians 15:2-4, NLT)

· Outreaches and activities

We organize outreaches as a ministry with the aim of reaching people with the good news of Jesus Christ and offering them an opportunity to enrol for follow-up/discipleship by correspondence. We also participate in programmes organized by other ministries where we participate in counselling during the programme and follow-up afterwards. Some of our outreaches in the past two years include:

Secondary Schools

§ ECWA Secondary School, Ganmo

§ Chapel Secondary School, Ilorin,

Youth Camp organized by Ilorin District Youth Council of ECWA

Worship Diet organized by ECWA Gaa-Akanbi Youth Fellowship

Social media- Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and WhatsApp

We have also launched WhatsApp Bible Study platforms which enables an online community of believers to study the Word of God together ‘as iron sharpens iron’ (Proverbs 27:17, NKJV). Apart from weekly studies, we have also had brief periods of daily study. In April 2019, we had a thirty-day online study in the book of Romans titled ‘Romance in the Book of Romans’ while in September 2019 we had an eighteen-day study in Ephesians titled ‘Beloved’.  Daily meditations from these were also shared on Facebook and Instagram. Several people have been edified by these activities.

You Can Get Involved

One of the many blessings we have enjoyed is the gift of men! God has indeed blessed us with like-minded men and women who have either served as members or provided encouragement and support to the ministry. Indeed, "The Lord gave the Word; great was the company that published it" (Psalm 68:11, KJV).

The following are avenues by which you can become involved with the ministry of Pens For Christ:

1. Join Our Team

PFC members are Christians who have the sincere desire to help others grow in their own walk God. Many of us have had our own share of struggles that hindered our growth and thirst for God. Hence “we will be able to give them the same comfort that God has given us” (2 Corinthians 1:4b; NLT).

Since inception, several people have identified with the vision as members and worked towards the actualization of the vision. While our physical headquarters is in Ilorin, Nigeria, members of Pens For Christ reside in different parts of the world. Members are able to connect with meetings online and send correspondence via various internet platforms. We acknowledge the fact that not all who had participated at one point or the other have been able to continue in active membership.

Intending members are required to go through some of our foundational publications. This is to ensure alignment with the ministry’s vision and fundamental Bible teachings. If you wish to join our team, kindly send ‘intending member’ via email to info@pensforchrist.org or  WhatsApp/sms to +2348109300225. To the glory of God, several lives have been touched positively through the ministry of Pens For Christ. This gladdens our hearts and we give praise to God who has made us partakers of the Ministry of Reconciliation. It is also noteworthy that some our former contacts (correspondents) whose Christian faith have been strengthened through the activities of the ministry have also joined the workforce in order to help others in their own Christian walk. Several church/ministry leaders have also identified with us and supported the work, having perceived the vision as a divine assignment.

We have shared below (with permission) a few feedbacks from some of our contacts, members and friends. We hope that these not only inform you but also edify you. Please visit our website for more feedbacks/testimonials: https://www.pensforchrist.org/testimonial

I was at that point in my life where it was a to and fro motion with God. I was a member of at least two departments in my church, still I was struggling with so much weight. I was on the brink of losing it, of tilting for good when I met with a man who would come to mean more to me over the years.

Dr Babatunde (or Dr Babs as we fondly call him) was practicing at the same hospital where I was on posting as an undergrad Nurse. He, having a keen sense of observation established a rapport with me, I can’t tell what he saw or what motivated him but that encounter introduced me to Pens for Christ. If you were following you’d observe that at this point I was familiar with the Word of God, I was frequent in church spaces. But my correspondence with Pens for Christ showed me the lifestyle, helped me to build Faith. Over frequent visits to Dr Babs, we discussed and expounded on the Word of God like we would do talking about Chelsea or Arsenal. I gradually began to feel less stressed and less pressured while building focus on Christ Jesus.

Finding the right person to talk with is as vital to our growth as studying the Bible, and that was what Pens for Christ gave me. Today, as I navigate and manoeuver the complexities of adult life, I have an anchor that holds me despite the wind that so often rock me. I am able to keep growing because I have an understanding of my faith, an understanding on which every other aspect of my spiritual life is built on. Pens for Christ helped give me that footing, and I’m forever grateful.

Having a correspondence with Pens for Christ (PFC) was an amazing experience for me. I was at a point in my life when I needed some guidance and assurance about who I was in Christ; if I was really saved despite struggling with my faith. I just really needed to know where I stood with God. Studying my Bible, praying and fellowshipping with other Christians didn't seem to get me the answers I needed until I started my correspondence with PFC and I was able to understand and get insight from the articles. I was also able to really communicate with members of the team who were always there to help.

The help I got spurred my desire to do the same for others who might need this clarity and assurance also. Hence, my decision to join the team afterwards. I am grateful to God for the opportunity to come across this Ministry, benefit and be a part of it. I am also grateful to PFC and I pray we never lose sight of the vision in Jesus name. Amen.

I am Izeiru Weli (called Ize by most of my friends). I work as a GP (Family Medicine doctor) in a semi-urban practice in the UK.

I love PFC.  I believe, like all believers, I have been called to the ministry of reconciliation and enabled by God to fulfil this ministry. I was in that position years ago when I did not understand a lot about God and I struggled in my relationship with Him. Thank God that by His grace and through faithful men, I got to hear the gospel of grace and I was discipled.

The Lord has called us to make disciples, not converts! ‘Go therefore and make DISCIPLES of all men...’ After an altar call, people get ‘saved’ and are just left on their own to figure out their Christian walk, confused and unguided. They often get frustrated and unfortunately never get to enjoy their relationship with God as He intended it to be. This should not be. We are to feed the sheep!

I desire to continue to work at PFC, helping people grow in their relationship with God. I desire to do more articles, get to respond more to contacts, support financially, be an encourager and also get encouraged.

Love & blessings

I am Mishael Titilayo, based in China. I am a Language Educational Analyst.

Pens for Christ has been a great blessing to me. I see it as a platform to reach out to new converts and a way to thoroughly help them grow in their new found faith. I'm learning a lot through PFC. Though I can't say I'm a writer but I think this group has taught me some things about writing.

Being a Muslim convert myself, I look forward to using this (PFC) platform to reach out to those that seem cast out because of their faith in Christ. When forbidden from using a Bible, writing letters and emails helped my growth back then. I look forward to seeing more young Christians grow in their faith through this method.

I hope to be able to join our (virtual) meetings (although time difference is a challenge). I also look forward to being prompt with responding to more contacts effectively.

I will also partake in prayers and intercessions for our contacts and also participate in our Bible Studies. I will do my best to be part of this group as God gives me the ability.

At a time like this, we really are in dire need of people and organizations that are aware of and committed to the agenda of God for mankind. Pens for Christ embodies, in one of the highest possible forms, the revelation and commitment in question.

The use of correspondence as a tool for Christ-life training is now, more than ever before, a tool of great relevance. It is my conviction that Pens for Christ stands as a mighty tool in God's hands in these end times, especially as its content is free of frivolities and settled on the priority of raising men into the stature of the Christ.

I assure you that PFC comes highly recommended for partnership and participation for all who seek avenues for contribution to the Work of God in these last days.

Greater grace to the PFC team.

Rev. Shola Olayemi

Masterpiece in Christ Church

From a humble beginning, born out of the vision to reach young believers and help them to maturity a little less than two decades ago, Pens For Christ (PFC), a Christian discipleship ministry has steadily pursued its founding vision.

As a Christian discipleship ministry, PFC is today a “company of the great”, believers who are called by God, gifted and talented to express spiritual truths in spiritual words by means of writing. Doing this, PFC brings God’s Word to the needy through the publishing power of the pen as inspired by the GIVER of THE WORD.

My contact with PFC from the foundation period till now has always been one of inspirations to reach out to the young in Christ.

Serving today in the Christian Education department of ECWA Ilorin DCC, I have found the ministry of Pens For Christ as a crucial partner in achieving the goal of the Christian Education department, which is the edification and maturity of the believer.

This partnership has flourished mostly in the youth arm of the department. At our annual camps and conferences, young people make decisions to give their lives to Christ and some rededicate their lives to follow Jesus. All these decisions need follow-up and discipleship. Working together with PFC, the follow-up of such young people has been made a lot more effective.

Relationships are built through the correspondences that follow, leading to stronger foundations laid in Christ. I must acknowledge here that working with PFC has been a great blessing and encouragement to the department.

Pst. Eli Alasan,

Christian Education Organiser,

ECWA Ilorin District Church Council.

We grew up responding to basically all altar calls. Unlike today, the pastors made it so scary: "anyone who is ashamed of me before men, I will be ashamed of before my Father...." How won't you be scared. Film shows featuring the end times, hell, judgement and so on topped the list of scares. I can't say how many times we went out for altar calls. We knew we wanted to make heaven. The invitations, however, were fear-driven and not love-driven. We battled with being sure we were saved.

The church was very vast in the evangelistic work; however, something fundamental was not on the table. There was no follow-up mechanism in place. It was a thing we suffered as babes in Christ. I wasn't surprised when God gave the ministry of building lives in the most holy faith to my immediate younger brother (Adewole) - the idea of follow-up and discipleship. This is someone who has been there before and understands the intricacies (Hebrews 5:1&2). God gave us different approaches in the work of discipleship, which is our core as believers (Matthew 28:19&20)

I remember the World Bible School (WBS) of old. It was a correspondence Bible School. Yes, letters.... There was no social media then. In my own words, I see Pen for Christ (PFC) in the light of WBS, engaging discipleship via correspondence. PFC has been doing a very wonderful job over the years. One thing that's worth noting is the ability of the leadership to have kept focus in the midst of flamboyant ministerial opportunities.

It is a pleasure to be a part of the ministry by proxy.

Aderemi Babatunde,

Facilitator, Treasured Possession Discipleship Forum (a non-denominational teenagers' discipleship group)

Below is a chat with a sister (N.O.) who came across a PFC article during a conference. (It is shared with her permission)

 N.O.: Awesome morning sir

PFC: how are you sister?

N.O.: I am so fine Sir

N.O.: How do I get to read more write ups from pens for Christ?

PFC: http://www.pensforchrist.org/articles

PFC: Please be sure to leave a response via the ‘Go To Study’ icon and/or comments

N.O: Alright sir

PFC: So what interested you most?

N.O: Hmm...

N.O: I have always known that the love of the father is deep

N.O: But realizing from the article that Christ didn't decide to die for us because we were good and deserved it, but because we were sinners and NEEDED it is even deeper.

N.O: He died because we needed it

N.O: It is a different dimension entirely

N.O: If we can always see people with the eyes of love (that there is a need in their lives) we will relate better with them

N.O: That's not a selfish love

PFC: Yeah, glad it resonated.  It’s been a liberating truth for many

N.O: It's a WOW

N.O: God bless you sir

PFC: Have you seen some of the articles?

N.O: Yes I have sir

N.O: Read two

PFC: Wow, you're fast

PFC: which ones?

N.O: “He loves you”

N.O: And "the love you can't resist". I read it again

PFC: Looks like you really love 'Love'

N.O: I do gan o

N.O: Love conquers all

N.O: So I like the greatest weapon

PFC: True.  And the very nature of God

N.O: Very well sir

PFC: Please let’s know any comment you may have

N.O: I plan to read all the articles...

PFC: Wow, you are really scaring me, in a positive way

PFC: Also if you want correspondence with the group, do let us know

 N.O: Alright sir

N.O: Read assurance of salvation

N.O: Presently on Safe and Secure

N.O: I got delivered from this when I came across Jude 1:24 – ‘Now unto Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy’. I realized God was able to keep me from falling and make me see Him on the last day. That was enough. I got delivered instantly. So the threat and fear of insecurity in Christ is real. The fear that you will fall into sin and that you cannot keep this righteousness forever. The devil is a liar

PFC: God be praised

PFC: Still impressive

PFC: I encourage you to click on the 'Go To Study' portions. You will find the studies helpful and incisive

PFC: Wow.  So encouraged

PFC: So your adventure on the site has been fruitful?

N.O: Yup

N.O: The articles I have read so far have been really simple and easy to read yet illuminating.

N.O: There's something about them

N.O: I'm not trying to hype unnecessarily

N.O: I will rather shut up

N.O: But I can't ignore the fact that they are simple but yet piercing.

N.O: Ok, I will

PFC: Thanks be to God
